Tornado-Damaged Siding Replacement in Portage, MI

Restoring and Updating a Portage Home After Severe Storm Damage

When a tornado moved through Portage in May 2024, wind-driven debris caused significant damage to this home’s exterior. The roof, siding, and solar panels were all affected, leaving the property exposed and requiring immediate temporary protection.

This phase of the restoration focused on removing the damaged siding and giving the home a durable, updated exterior with green-toned siding, black window wraps, and coordinating black soffit and fascia.

The Challenge: Protecting the Home During a Lengthy Insurance Process

The physical damage was only the beginning of the challenge. Approval of the storm damage insurance claim involved a long and difficult back-and-forth process. Nearly two years passed between the initial tornado damage in May 2024 and the start of exterior construction in May 2026.

While the claim was being reviewed, the home still needed protection from rain, snow, and changing Michigan weather. Our team installed a tarp to help keep the damaged exterior covered while the property owners waited for approval.

During the winter, water began getting underneath the tarp. Our crew returned to the property, removed accumulated snow from the affected area, and installed a new tarp to help keep the home dry until permanent work could begin.

The Siding Replacement

Once the siding portion of the project was approved, we removed the old, storm-damaged siding and prepared the exterior for the new materials.

The homeowners selected new siding in a muted green tone that gives the house a fresh appearance while fitting naturally with the surrounding property. Black window wraps were installed to create clean contrast around the windows, and the exterior was completed with new black soffit and fascia.

The combination of green siding and black exterior details gave the home a more modern, coordinated look while replacing materials that had been compromised by the tornado.

The Result

Our crew completed the siding, window wrap, soffit, and fascia installation in approximately three to four working days.

After nearly two years of temporary protection, insurance discussions, and weather-related challenges, the home now has a renewed exterior with a cohesive green-and-black color combination.

This siding installation represents the completed first phase of the property’s storm restoration. Additional work associated with the roof and solar panel damage may be completed separately as the overall restoration moves forward.
